Sumptuous souvenirs in Iceland

Located at the far end of the Grandi district, Omnom Chocolate Factory has been responsible for concocting some of Iceland’s most unique and delicious sweet products since 2013. Founded by childhood friends Kjartan Gíslason and Óskar Þórðarson, flavours such as ‘Black n’ burnt Barley’ and ‘Liquorice and Sea Salt’ have since immortalised Omnom Chocolate as a local favourite, and a palatable surprise for visitors.

Móðir Jörð (Mother Earth) focusses on growing outstanding organic products such as sweet pickled vegetables and chutneys, vegetarian burgers, breakfast barley porridge and local dried herbs. While these make for lovely souvenirs in their own right, there is perhaps no better takeaway than any one of the many jams curated at the farm, with the most popular flavours being blackcurrant, blueberry and rhubarb.

With its distinct fruity flavour, Iceland’s first hot sauce, Bera, has proved an instant hit, providing a tingling Caribbean spice that complements a litany of meals. Cooked up by East Iceland local, William Óðinn Lefever, Bera hot sauce is made using the freshest ingredients sourced from Karlsstaðir farm in Berufjörður. Recently, they have added to their roster the new Dreki Hot Sauce, inspired by both Scandinavian and East Asian culinary traditions.
